Every October, the turrón de Doña Pepa becomes part of the rhythm of Peru. A dessert deeply connected to our culture, bringing with it memories of Lima, family, processions, purple streets, gatherings and traditions passed from one generation to the next.
To celebrate this heritage, we came together with Alanya Repostería and chef Zara Alanya, who created her own version of this traditional Peruvian dessert.
For the collaboration, we translated that same feeling into a T-shirt.
The graphic takes inspiration from cross-stitch, a technique traditionally used by grandmothers to add small embroidered details to their handwritten recipe books — books filled with family recipes, passed down from one generation to the next.
We imagined BENDITO MILAGRO as one of those details: a small piece of memory, inspired by the recipes, traditions and stories that are preserved through generations. A way of bringing the feeling of an old family recipe book into something that can be worn and carried with us.
For Zara, the turrón is deeply personal:
“For me, turrón de Doña Pepa is nostalgia.
When I was a child, October had a different rhythm. The processions, the full streets, the purple, the families gathering and that devotion that could be felt without anyone saying a word. That is perhaps why turrón means so much to me.
When I make turrón de Doña Pepa, I am not simply making a dessert, I am making memory.
Of my family, my childhood, my faith, my country and everything I once dreamed of.
There are flavours that we simply like, and there are others that remind us who we are.”
On October 3rd, we celebrated the collaboration at Cacao Alanya, where a giant turrón de Doña Pepa was served for people to share, alongside coffee and the first chance to experience the collaboration together.
Only 40 BENDITO MILAGRO T-shirts were made.
Available at Alanya Surco, Alanya Barranco and Cacao Alanya.
